Temporality underpins our understanding of fashion, a medium in constant flux whose very definition indicates change. This is especially visible in the ever-changing city landscape, with the continual movement of dwellers coming and going, influencing the shape and tandem of an individual’s experience and clothing.
Upon arriving in a city, an individual adapts to its specific codes and conventions. Moving through the urban landscape, a newfound familiarity emerges when traversing from park to pavement, bus to metro.
Our clothing evolves as we grow in the city, mirroring our changing environment. The city's initial wonderment becomes part of us, revealing new spectacles and shifting focal points.
BALLETSHOFER’s 2024 - 006 collection explores the neural experience of growing with and moving through a city.
In unique cooperation with the global footwear brand Timberland, the iconic boat shoe is adapted to give it a modern edge and is presented in different design variants as a showpiece on the runway. The interchangeable toe cap isolates components of a classic tailoring shoe to produce a new silhouette that evolves with the individual's wardrobe.
Founder Alan Balletshofer draws inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of Ichi-go ichi-e (一期一会), which captures the unrepeatable nature of a moment. In his own words:
“Echoing Ichi-go ichi-e, we embrace the fleeting present moment, capturing its essence in garments that exude grace and purpose. Every stitch and fabric choice reflects the balance between modernity and heritage, inviting contemplation on the cyclical nature of time and fashion.”
As the world’s pace increases, BALLETSHOFER emphasises conscious design practices, considering the importance and singularity of each present moment as we grow in and through the urban environment.
